SUNDOWN, MANITOBA - The Sun is shining brighter for Sundown, Manitoba cattle producer Randy Tkachyk following the formation of a strategic alliance with two Winnipeg businesses this week.

Tkachyk, who owns and operates http://www.manitobabeef.com/ is not letting the year-long battle with the BSE/Mad Cow Crisis and subsequent border closures to beef exports, discourage him.  Instead, he has formed a partnership with Winnipeg's Canad Inns and Toledo Foodservice to supply and package his product right here in Manitoba.

"All Manitoba cattle producers are having problems getting their product to the consumer because of the BSE crisis,"  Tkachyk said.  "What makes things worse is that there are not enough inspected plants to process the cattle.  The arrangement we have made with Canad Inns and Toledo Foodservice will go a long way to keep our operation alive and open new markets right here in Manitoba," he said.

MANITOBA GROWN

Tkachyk's operation supplies Manitoba grown beef that has the added advantage of known history and being fed without hormones and antibiotic free.

Canad Inns President Leo Ledohowski says his corporation is happy to be helping a Manitoba producer.  "This is all about Manitobans helping Manitobans," he said.  "We are excited to be able to feature Manitoba grown beef on our menu's soon."

Toledo Foodservice spokesperson Marlin Van Robays said his company was "delighted" to be a part of the new venture.  "We are looking forward to a long-term relationship and we applaud the initiative and entrepreneurship of Randy Tkachyk and http://www.manitobabeef.com/ .  It's good for the industry," Van Robays said.

Tkachyk said his company will also be making their product available to Manitoba consumers in vacuum packed packages ranging between three and five kilograms.  "We'll have steaks, kabobs, stir-fry and hamburger patties ready for the grill and the summer barbecue season," he said.
